What... We Do.

Unisex Piercings

Ears
Of all piercing's various ear placements(see Chart) are most widespread and socially acceptable. Though it should be noted: in the 30's- to the early 60's women with even lobe piercings were considered troublemakers!- ha (social outcasts, misfits and "fast" according to my Grandfather).

Nostrils
Nostril piercings have been common in many diverse cultures. In recent years, many modern men and women have adopted the fashion, several basic types of jewelry are worn in this piercing: Rings, barbells, nose bones, nose screws and fish-tails. Placement, technique and proper jewelry is crucial for initial piercing.

Septum
Septum piercing has been and continues to be prevalent in many cultures throughout the world. Some African and Indonesian tribes have this type of piercing as well as the Cuna Indians of Panama. Most piercing enthusiasts are able to survive in an unsympathetic world with this placement only because a retainer or glass plug is inserted- even for an initial piercing. Thus making their piercings not visible to the majority of people until a ring, piece of horn or a tusk is inserted.

Eyebrow
This has become one of the more common piercings today. At Factor Five LLC. we custom size and shape every 16 gauge mini barbell. This is important as the rejection rate is very high on such a surface (without ledge) piercing. Ideal placement is so that the balls on the jewelry are seemingly suspended. Later if a ring of 18, 16 or 14 gauge are worn, it would appear to simply wrap around the eyebrow.

Lip
Piercing of the lip and cheek have become common place in many cultures around the world. Piercings can be done anywhere along the length of the lower lip and in avoiding the devils triangle*, much of the upper lip and surrounding area is acceptable.

Labret
This piercing is traditionally done from the middle of the lower lip's edge to the center of your "pout". Placement is crucial and depends so that dental erosion is not to commence. The word Lebret is french for "Lip".

Tongue
This piercing can be done at various spots along the center of the tongue. Though an experienced piercer knows to look for the natural "sweet spot" for best overall comfort. This muscle heals very quickly and is the most painless piercing. 12 gauge Barbells are used for this piercing exclusively at Factor Five LLC. The jewelry must be exactly the right size and proper measurement is crucial to avoid dental and tissue crisis. Swelling is to be expected for several days after the piercing though in following the after care we outline, it is absolutely minimal if any.

Navel
Navel piercing was a sign of royalty to the ancient Egyptians. Usually the skin directly above the navel is pierced. This use to be a particularly difficult piercing to heal and retain however by using the "Dry-Method" we are finding the heal times cut easily in half. It does however require dedication and careful attention to micro tears as it can easily become irritated by belts, waistbands and even sitting or bending. Factor Five LLC. piercers custom size every curved barbell worn for initial piercing so our clients (you) are ensured a perfect fit for minimal heal time.

Nipples
Piercing of the nipples has become increasingly popular in recent years. Next to the ears this has become the second most common body part to be pierced. It was in vogue in France during the reign of Louis XIV and in England during the reign of Queen Victoria. It is very sensual and erotic piercing.

Nipples are usually pierced horizontally, but can be pierced vertically or even diagonally. Care in placement is very important. Placement for piercing should be done while standing. We use only custom fit barbells for the initial piercing; however rings can be worn after the piercing is healed. The Aftercare we give to you both verbally and in writing is very important -as it is with all piercings.

Female Piercings

Labia Minora and Labia Majora
Historically speaking, Labia piercings are the female equivalent of foreskin piercings having been the means of assuring female chastity. This form of piercing was and is practiced in many countries; Ethiopia, Rome, India and Persia to name a few. For many modern women Labia piercings are done to enhance erotic feelings: not to restrict intercourse.

Clitoral hood
This piercing is extremely popular as the piercing allows the jewelry to constantly excite the clitoris and enhance clitoral stimulation during intercourse.

Clitoris
Although growing in popularity: We feel that most women do not have a large enough clitoris to pierce safely. For the few who opt for this piercing it affords its owner with incomparable heightened sensitivity.

Male Piercings

Guiche
Even today the guiche is common among the male natives of the South Pacific Islands. Particularly Tahiti. This piercings is a horizontal piercing located between the scrotum and the anus: usually where the inseam of a pair of pants would be located. It is one of the more difficult piercings to do and to live with. It is not recommended for those who are required to do a great deal of sitting. Individuals who have adopted this type of piercing, generally wear some type of metal ring, to which some type of weight is frequently attached and worn.

Foreskin
Historically speaking foreskin piercings have been used as a means of assuring male chastity. This practice called infibulation involved. Locking some form of device through two perforations in the foreskin. This piercing was common in ancient Rome and is popular in India and Borneo.
Foreskins can have single or multiple piercings and because the tissue is so thin the healing time is quite rapid.

Prince Albert
Named for Queen Victoria’s consort, prince Albert, who allegedly had one. This is considered by many men to be the most sensual of all penis piercings. This is said to enhance stimulation for both partners. The piercing is made through the underside of the head of the penis exiting through the urethra. The amount of flesh that is pierced is very small and the healing is very rapid.

Frenum
The second most popular piercing of the penis is that of the Frenum: Which is the losse web of skin between the foreskin and the head of the penis. The preferable choice of Jewelry is a ring that encircles the head of the penis during erection: much like a cock ring. The procedure and healing is very quick.

Ampallang
This piercing is most common to Indonesia. It is primarily done to enhance the sexual pleasure of women. This is a horizontal piercing through the head of the penis. As it is a long piercing. It can take a long time to heal: usually six months or longer. Barbells are the most suitable jewelry for this piercing and should fix snug during erection.

Apadravya
The vertical counterpart of the ampallang is mentioned in the Karma Sutra: the ancient Hindu treatise on love and social conduct. This vertical piercing of the head of the penis is placed so that the underside emerges through the same hole of the pierce and reverse prince Albert piercings. The jewelry is the same as for the ampallang. Healing time is generally less than that of the ampallang as the piercing generally passes through the urethra.

Dydoes
These piercing are generally done by men who want to regain some of the sensation which they felt has been lost due to circumcision. Dydone piercings are normally done in pairs, one dydoe stud through the glans on either side of the head of the penis: this piercing is only appropriate for the man who has been circumcised.

Speed Bumps
Is a secession of multiple penile shaft piercings that penetrate the skin only. Many men have often had the piercing done on the underside of the penis: which are generally referred to as frenum piercings. We at Body Designs coined the name and piercing as speed bumps after the reaction of females to stimulation that is received from these piercings. The piercings have the ability to stimulate the “G” spot quite effectively. Barbells are the choice of jewelry for this piercing.

Factor Five Aftercare

General Care

Keep in mind that the only thing you need to actively do is grow new skin. You may find that the healing will finish faster than by other means if you treat your piercing like stitches, keep it completely dry and keeping scab intact. (Avoid contact with soap or cleansers.) If tissue becomes irritated, a warm chamomile teabag compress may provide some comfort. Freshly boiled, cooled and squeezed out, the warmth directly on the site can be soothing.

Oral

Brush teeth with bottled water and new or boiled toothbrush after meals and snacks. Drink plenty of liquids (water, fruit juice) Apply ice as needed. (Avoid contact with anything irritating, for example: alcohol, tobacco, spicy, sugary, or highly acidic foods and drinks, peroxides, toothpastes, mouthwash, etc.)

* Remember

No chemical or magic sauce will ever add new skin, your body heals itself, your piercing does not require antibacterial products or special care to happily heal.

Use disposable cups as a shield to keep tap water out of piercing during showering.

Moving your jewelry is equivalent to picking a scab - DON’T DO IT!!

A healthy diet, avoiding alcohol, smoking, and drugs, will benefit your piercing.

Avoid sexual and oral contact with healing piercings.

If you swim wear a waterproof bandage such as Tegaderm, Duoderm, or Cleanseals.

Jewelry should not be changed at home until any kind of scab has been gone for 30 days.

Piercings Aftercare Guidelines for Oral Piercings

The following aftercare guidelines for oral piercings are
courtesy of the Association of Professional Piercers.

Cleaning Solutions

Use Tech 2000 diluted with distilled or bottled water (not tap water) according to package instructions as an oral irrigator (two capfuls to one cup of water). An alternative is Biotene or other alcohol-free antimicrobial or anti-bacterial mouth rinse diluted 50/50 with distilled or bottled water. These are avail-able in the oral medications section of most drugstores. Check with your piercing studio; many studios sell these products for your convenience.

Also: Mild sea salt water rinses. Dissolve a pinch (1/4 tea-spoon) non-iodized (iodine free) sea salt to one cup (8 oz.) warm to hot water. (Avoid hot water for the first few days.) If you have high blood pressure or heart problems, you will need to limit your frequency with the sea salt, and use only plain warm water rinses.

Cleaning Instructions

Rinse mouth for 30-60 seconds with diluted Tech 2000 or Biotene (see Cleaning Solutions above) after meals during the entire minimum initial healing time. Do not use more than 4-5 times daily and use it over intervals spaced throughout the entire day.

Rinse mouth briefly (10-15 seconds) with the mild sea salt mixture (see recipe above) after you are done smoking, or if you ingest anything except water or clean ice between meals. If you are cleaning too often, the top of your tongue will start to turn a white to yellowish color. Continue to clean your piercing, but reduce the number of times you are cleaning it per day.

What is normal?

Swelling of the area is perfectly normal during the first part of healing an oral piercing. It can be greatly reduced by gently sucking (rather than chewing) on clean ice. Chipped or shaved ice, or small cubes are best. The majority of the swelling usually lasts for only 3-5 days.

Any new piercing can bleed off and on for a few days. There can also be some bleeding under the surface resulting in temporary bruising or discoloration. This is perfectly normal and not indicative of any complication.

Some tenderness or discomfort in the area of a new piercing is not unusual. You may feel aching, pinching, tightness or other unpleasant sensations off and on for several days or longer.

Don’t be alarmed if you see a fairly liquid, yellowish secretion coming from the piercing. This is blood plasma, lymph and dead cells, which is perfectly normal. All healing piercings secrete, it just looks different inside the mouth, as it doesn’t have a chance to dry and form a crust as it does on ear or body piercings. This is not pus, but indicates a healing piercing.

Plaque may form on tongue jewelry, commonly on the bottom ball and/or post. Scrub your barbell with a firm toothbrush (gently during healing). After healing you may use Plax or another anti-plaque product. If you are diligent with oral hygiene the jewelry will not need to be removed for cleaning, and it can usually be left in even for routine visits to the dentist.

Piercings may have a tendency to have a series of ups and downs during healing by seeming healed and then regressing. Try to be patient, and do keep cleaning during the entire initial healing time, even if the piercing seems healed sooner.

Each body is unique, and healing times can vary considerably. If you have any questions, please contact your piercer.

Once initial swelling is down, having your piercer replace the post portion of bar style jewelry with a shorter post may be wise. Jewelry which fits more closely is less likely to irritate your mouth or get between your teeth and be bitten.

If you like your piercing, leave jewelry in at all times. Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person, and even if your ear lobe piercings stay open without jewelry your oral piercing may not!

Keep following the care procedures during the entire mini-mum initial healing time, even if the piercing seems healed sooner.

What to do…

Try to sleep with your head propped up on pillows during the first few nights of healing; keeping your head above your heart will help to avoid much initial overnight swelling.

An over-the-counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) taken according to package instructions can reduce discomfort, and it can also help to diminish swelling the first few days.

Check twice daily with clean hands to be sure the threaded ends on your jewelry are on tight. To clean hands, wash them carefully with liquid antibacterial soap such as Dial or Lever 2000. If your hands aren’t freshly washed, don’t touch your-self above the neck during the initial healing time.

Replace your toothbrush and make sure to keep it clean so that everything that goes into your mouth is hygienic while you are healing. A sensitive type of toothpaste may be less irritating to your mouth during healing than a usual, stronger variety.

Try to go slowly when you eat and to take small bites when you are getting used to your new jewelry. Cold foods and beverages feel great and can help diminish swelling. Drink plenty of liquids, especially bottled water.

Get enough sleep and eat a nutritious diet. The healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal.

What to avoid

No oral sexual contact including French (wet) kissing or oral sex during the entire initial healing period, even if you are in a monogamous relationship. (If you had a large cut you would not allow anyone to spit into it! This is essentially the same thing.)

Avoid chewing on gum, tobacco, fingernails, pencils, sun-glasses, etc., during healing. Don’t share plates, cups or eating utensils.

Reducing smoking or quitting is highly advisable when healing an oral piercing. Smoking increases risks and can lengthen the healing time. Avoid undue stress and recreational drug usage.

Stay away from aspirin, large amounts of caffeine, and alcoholic beverages for the first several days. Alcoholic beverages include all beer, wine and hard liquor. These can cause additional swelling, bleeding and discomfort.

Refrain from eating spicy, salty, acidic, or hot temperature foods and beverages for a few days.

Do not play with the piercing for the initial healing time be-yond the necessary movement for speaking and eating. The mouth withstands a lot of trauma from normal speaking and eating. Try to avoid other disturbances such as excessive talking, actively playing with the jewelry, or clicking the jewelry against your teeth. Undue stress on the piercing can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration and other complications.

Even after healing, excessive play with oral jewelry can result in permanent damage to teeth, gums, and oral structures. Metal is harder than the human body; be gentle.

Do not use Lysterine or other mouthwash, which contains alcohol. It can irritate the area and delay healing.

Don’t use too many different products; select and use only one cleaning solution (such as Tech 2000 or Biotene) plus sea salt.

Oral Piercing Hints and Tips:

* Some piercees will carry a spare ball in their wallet or purse. This is particularly advisable if you wear non-metallic balls such as acrylic, which is more fragile.
* If you break or lose a ball, a small piece of clean pencil eraser can be press-fit onto the post as an emergency measure to keep the jewelry from coming out until a replacement can be obtained.
* On barbells/labret studs you may change the ball portion of the jewelry at any time, but the original post should remain until initial swelling is down.

Tongue:

* Try to focus on keeping your tongue level in your mouth to avoid biting on the jewelry as you eat. Your mouth is likely to feel uncoordinated at first, but this will pass.
* Try eating small bites of solid foods by placing food directly onto the molars with clean fingers or a fork. Food that is already in the back of the mouth doesn’t have to get moved there by your tongue.
* Gently brush your tongue and jewelry when you are healing. Once healed, brush tongue and jewelry thoroughly and vigorously to keep plaque away.

Lip/cheek:

* Be cautious about opening your mouth wide when you eat, as this can result in the backing of the jewelry catching on your teeth. Take small bites and go slowly at first.
* The outside of the piercing may become somewhat red or pink during healing and this is normal. Refer to the Aftercare Guidelines for Body and Facial Piercings sheet for instructions on how to care for the exterior surface of such a piercing.

APP Aftercare Guidelines for Facial & Body Piercings

The following aftercare guidelines for facial and body piercings are courtesy of the Association of Professional Piercers.

Cleaning Solutions
Use a mild liquid antimicrobial/germicidal medicated soap such as Provon or Satin, and water. Inferior alternatives include products such as Almay Clearly Natural, Hypocare, NutriBiotic or other mild, fragrance-and color-free liquid antibacterial soap. These should possibly be diluted with distilled or bottled water, depending on product strength. Also, mild non-iodized (no iodine) sea salt soaks as described below.

Salt Water Soaks
Mild sea salt water soaks are strongly suggested at least once a day to accelerate healing and increase your comfort. This may also help to reduce irritation in the area. Dissolve a pinch (1/4 teaspoon) of sea salt into one cup (8 oz.) of warm or hot water in a clean cup. Distilled water is optimal. A stronger solution is not better as you can burn your piercing with too much salt. Invert it over the area to form a vacuum and soak directly for a few minutes. For certain placements it is easier to use a clean cotton ball or gauze pad soaked in the salt water and applied to the pierced area. Follow with a clear water rinse or splash then pat dry with paper products.

Salt water soaks help to stimulate air and blood circulation which facilitates healing. You can do a brief salt water soak before your daily cleaning(s) as well as several additional times a day. It is particularly advisable to soak before you do anything active, as it will prevent crust from being pulled inside the piercing as you move around. Salt water is the only additional product (other than the cleanser and water) we suggest you use to care for your piercing.

One soak per day should be for at least a few minutes. Additional soaks can be brief (1 minute or so) and still be effective for soothing the area and removing matter.

Cleaning Instructions

Body piercings need to be cleaned once or twice daily, every day, for the entire initial healing time. Most people clean morning and/or night, in the shower. Do not clean more often as this can irritate your piercing, and possibly delay your healing. For once-a-day cleanings, do it at the end of your day. Optimal frequency will depend on your skin sensitivity, activity level, and environmental factors.

1. Before cleanings wash hands thoroughly with liquid antibacterial soap and hot water. If you wish, you may wear disposable latex or vinyl gloves and/or also use a hand sanitizing gel. Never, never touch healing piercings with dirty hands. This is vital for avoiding infections.
2. Prepare the area for the cleansing by rinsing or soaking with warm water and be sure to remove any stubborn crust using a cotton swab and warm water. Never pick with fingernails! This step is important for your comfort.
3. Apply a small handful of cleaning solution to the area with your clean hands. Cleanse the area and the jewelry, and gently rotate the jewelry back and forth a few times to work the solution to the inside. (You do not need to rotate your jewelry during the first several cleanings).
4. Allow the solution to cleanse there for a minute. You may bathe normally, just don’t purposely work anything other than the cleanser onto the inside of the piercing.
5. Rinse the area thoroughly under running water, while rotating the jewelry back and forth to completely remove the cleanser from the inside and outside of the piercing.
6. Gently pat dry with disposable paper products such as gauze or tissues, as cloth towels can harbor bacteria.

Please try to be patient. Each body is unique, and healing times can vary considerably. If your piercing is tender or secreting you should continue the care regimen, even if it is past the stated average healing time range.

What is normal?

Bleeding, bruising, discoloration and/or swelling are not uncommon. Any break in the skin, including a new piercing can bleed or bruise. These are not indications of any complication. Reduce intake of aspirin, alcohol, and caffeine. For above-the-neck piercings try sleeping with your head elevated above your heart (prop up on some pillows) to limit overnight swelling. Studies show non-steroidal anti-inflammatory products such as Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) can help minimize swelling.

Some tenderness or discomfort in the area of a new piercing is not unusual. You may feel stinging, burning, aching or other unpleasant sensations off and on for several days or longer. During healing there may be some itching.

Secretion of a fluid that contains blood plasma, lymph and dead cells is perfectly normal. It is fairly liquid, whitish-yellow in color and forms a crust on the jewelry at the openings of the piercing. This is not pus, but indicates a healing piercing.

Once healed your piercing may secrete a semi-solid white malodorous substance from the oil glands called sebum. This is not pus, but indicates a healed piercing.

Piercings may have a tendency to have a series of “ups and downs” during healing by seeming healed and then regressing. Try to be patient, and do keep cleaning during the entire initial healing time, even if the piercing seems healed sooner.

Tightness is normal. Do not expect jewelry to swing freely in most body piercings, even after they are thoroughly healed.

What to do…

* Wash your hands prior to contact on or near the area of your healing piercing!

* Leave the piercing alone except for when you are cleaning it. It is not necessary or advisable to rotate the ring while healing except during cleanings.

* Leave the starter jewelry in during the entire minimum initial healing time!
(Assuming your initial jewelry is appropriate in terms of metal content, style, and size). Inappropriate jewelry should be changed out by a professional.) Those with captive-style rings or barbells (straight, bent, or circular) can change the bead/ball portion of the jewelry at any time.

* Check twice daily with clean hands to make sure the balls are screwed on tight on threaded jewelry such as barbells. Both balls tighten to the right.

* If you like your piercing leave jewelry in at all times. Even old, well-healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person, and even if your ear lobe piercings stay open without jewelry your body piercing may not! Contact your piercer if your jewelry must be temporarily removed (such as for a medical procedure). Monofilament nylon or another inert non-metallic substance may be able to be inserted to maintain the piercing until jewelry can be reinserted.

* Make sure your bedding is clean and changed frequently while you are healing, especially if pets get into your bed.

* Wear clean, comfortable, breathable fabric clothing in the area of a body piercing.

* A multi-vitamin mineral supplement containing zinc and vitamin C may help boost your body's healing abilities. Take it with your morning meal according to package instructions.

* Get enough sleep, eat a nutritious diet, and avoid undue stress, recreational drugs, and alcohol consumption. The healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal.

* Showering is safer than taking a bath, as bathtubs tend to harbor bacteria. To bathe safely, clean your tub with a bleach product before each bath, and rinse the tub before you fill it. Also, be sure to do a running water rinse on your piercing when you are done in the tub.

* In the event that the piercing drains a thick pus discharge instead of the normal liquid secretion, you may wish to see a physician for evaluation and possible antibiotic treatment. If you do have an infection, the jewelry should be left in the piercing to allow for drainage of pus. If the jewelry is removed, the holes can close up, resulting in an abscess. LEAVE YOUR JEWELRY IN!

What to Avoid

* Don’t use alcohol, peroxide, Betadine or Hibiclens as they are overly strong and drying which can hinder healing.

* Don’t apply any ointment such as Bacitracin, Neosporin or any triple antibiotic ointment on your piercing. These prevent oxygen from reaching the wound and form a sticky residue, which can cause complications. They are not designed for use on healing piercings.

* Don’t over clean. Cleaning more often than once or twice a day is NOT better. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing.

* Don’t use too many different products; select and use only one cleaning solution (such as Provon or Satin) plus sea salt.

* Avoid oral contact, rough play, and contact with others’ bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing.

* Don’t use band-aids on a healing piercing. They limit air circulation and the adhesive can irritate the surrounding area.

* Avoid sleeping on a piercing during healing.

* Don’t hang charms or any object from your jewelry until the piercing is fully healed.

* Avoid submerging your piercings in water such as pools, lakes, Jacuzzis, etc. unless you feel confident that the water is clean enough for you and an open wound (which is what your piercing is while it is healing). Most bodies of water harbor large amounts of bacteria. If there is sea life, motor oil or children in the water, it is not clean enough!

* If you are going to be in water of questionable cleanliness, use a breathable, non water-permeable wound sealant such as Tegaderm or Clean Seals (available at drugstores and pharmacies) before you go in, to protect yourself and prevent dirty water from getting inside your open wound. Cleaning afterwards is not likely to be effective in preventing infection.

* Exercise during healing is fine, just “listen” to your body. Try to avoid activities that put undue stress on the area. Your own sweat and bodily fluids are not harmful to your piercing, provided you clean daily as directed.

Factor Five at this time offers branding services.
It is imperative that you stop by for a consultation
and literature to educate yourself.
We offer three methods, strike, cattle, and cautery method.

What is it?
Being Branded is truly a unique experience. There is something about it that feels very primal and ancient. For many people, the experience itself is as desirable as the end result.

Where to begin.

When considering a brand, a consultation is mandatory. This gives us stress free time to communicate back and forth about your expectations and design ideas. Brandings will spread when they heal, and we need to take this into consideration when creating or working out the size of your piece. With branding, there is much variation from one person to the next. Each body is unique in how a brand will develop over time. . For some people a brand will produce a beautifully raised and defined texture that is wonderfully sensitive to the touch. For others, the effect may be more of a flat, sharp, light coloured design. Just as lovely...but different. Our consultation is important to help you realize how your skin will respond.

How to prepare.

Your branding experience may be a half-day event. Much time is spent simply trying out the stencil. It is generally suggested that you eat 1 1/2 hours before your appointment to ensure your energy level is good and solid. We also recommend you bring some juice or fruit with you to replenish yourself afterwards.

The Process.
Your design is stenciled or drawn onto your skin (as with a tattoo) exactly where you want it. Using 316L surgical steel segments, the pieces are heated and pre-formed with a series of shot strikes, making up the design you choose. The process is only as fast as you feel comfortable with. Most often people are surprised the experience is more comfortable than expected and that it does not bleed.

The Healing
The first few days that follow your branding is when you will feel some discomfort, As the affected area separates from the unaffected skin, there is a slight throbbing sensation. Several options for care are available depending on the desired result. We will want to keep in contact to ensure a safe, healthy 2-3 week healing process.
The cost for such work really depends on the size and complexity of the design you desire, Our minimum charge is $90, A price will be determined during your consultation.

BRAND1NG AFTERCARE
During the healing of a brand it will go through two stages, the initial healing period (2-6 weeks) in which the skin is open and scabbing. The second stage is when the scar tissue forms and stabilizes (2-12 months).

Brands are third degree burns which means the skin has actually been destroyed, so in the initial healing you want to keep the area clean. Your body’s ability to protect itself from infection has been compromised, so you must pick up the slack externally. This means don’t touch the area with dirty or unwashed hands and keep everyone else away from the branding until the surface has been sealed over.

CLEANING– When cleaning the brand make sure hands have been thoroughly washed in an antibacterial soap before doing anything to the area, Then use a saline soak twice a day for about 4 weeks. Pour the saline into a cup and heat it up the microwave until slightly warmer then room temp. Take a sterile gauze or cotton ball and absorb the saline and apply to the area for 10-15 min., and then pat dry with a paper towel or napkin. (When showering keep the branding dry by using water proof Band-Aids or tegaderm.)

DO NOT USE: Rubbing alcohol or any kind of ointments because not only might they irritate the branding but they could interfere with the healing process,

Aloe vera maybe used during the first day or two to help soothe the branding, but prolonged use may speed healing to the point that the branding may not raise as well. Often it is the first or second degree burns on the surrounding skin (caused by radiating heat) which are the most painful. Feel free to apply aloe to this area as long as needed.

Your brand will probably be excreting a clear or yellowish liquid during the erst few weeks, you may want to cover the area with a NONSTICK pad, If you don’t, make sure that clothes are clean, loose, and made of natural fibers. Tight or synthetic clothes may rub and irritate the branding, and dirty clothes harbor bacteria which could cause infection.

After the surface skin has sealed over, the danger of infection has largely passed. You will want to clean the brand in the shower, but now you can treat it pretty much like normal skin. Now, you are mainly waiting for your body to build up new skin cells and scar tissue. At this stage is when you can begin to irritate your brand to cause more dramatic scarring. Don’t try picking or scratching at your brand until the skin has sealed over!!! You may end up ripping the edges and making them uneven or even giving yourself an infection.

INTENSIFYING YOUR BRAND:

– Scrubbing the area gently in the shower with a loofah sponge
– Lightly scratching the area with your fingernails after a shower or during the day – Using peroxide on the area after picking a dry scab also helps promote scartissue

It may be several months, or even a year, before your brand finishes scarring. Even then, the results will depend largely on your particular skin. Some people scar dramatically with very little effort, while some notice a color change and not much else. There are no specific guarantees with branding, it is an organic modification rather than an exact one like piercing. What a person gets may vary on location, skin type, body fat, etc,. The emphasis should be more on the experience of the branding rather on the end results.

* If you go anywhere else you don't know the facts.
